HAMON

We build a game engine in Rust, games that run on it, and the tools to make both.

A smith's forge in the hills, and the village road below it. Walk in.

The village road below the forge: a few wooden stalls with indigo and persimmon-brown noren and paper lanterns, rice paddies beside the road, the thatched forge at the top.

Where the smith's work is shown

A forge sat near water, charcoal and iron sand, at the edge of a farming village. The road below it is where the work was shown. Here each stall carries the name of a part of the sword, and each one is something Hamon makes. Hamon is the house; the rest are its stages.

Stall names come from the parts of the sword. Which stall holds which product is still to be decided.

What Hamon is

Three things, built together: an engine, games that run on it, and the tools to make both. Each one lives in a part of this forge.

All of it is early and in active work. The forge you are walking through is itself a scene being built in the engine.

The threshold: daylight on the step, the hearth glowing at the far side of the room.

内 Inside

Step in

Out of the daylight, the room rises out of the dark. Inside, the fire is the light.

Hover or tap the marks in the room, or keep walking.

Close on the hearth: fire in the clay hearth, sparks and smoke, the work block and a coiled rope in the foreground.

The engine

hamon-engine is a Rust and wgpu workspace. It has a native windowed prototype, an ECS runtime, deterministic replay, and a control surface that scripts and agents can drive. Everything on this page was rendered with it.

  • Native windowed prototype, Rust + wgpuprototype
  • ECS, typed CPU runtime, deterministic replay textworking, evolving
  • Control surface: CLI, JSON-RPC and MCPworking, evolving
  • Physics on Rapier, including rope constraintsin progress
  • Lockstep input frames for networkingearly
  • Deformable terrain and a world-rhythm simearly

The games

Small games built on the engine. They are proving grounds for the engine, not releases. Each one tests a different piece: input, physics, rendering, replay.

  • Aetherline: a small WebGPU browser game. Collect three relics, open the gate.playable build
  • First: the scripted proving target. Deterministic 60 Hz sim with golden-frame checks.test bed
  • Counterpoise: a cargo-balancing puzzle on a real physics beam. Plays in the terminal; no window yet.early
  • Glasswake: the tether-crossing core of a planned adventure. Simulation only, no finished visuals.in progress
  • Inkbound: first-area scaffold for a third-person action game. No art or combat yet.scaffold

Tools and craft

研師 Togishi is the polisher. Nothing is added. Stone by stone, the work brings out what is already there.

The editors and command-line tools around the engine:

  • Entity inspector, an optional native editorworking
  • Material constants editorworking
  • Mesh authoring CLI, recipes to GLBworking
  • Asset import, cooking and stale-pack checksworking
  • Experiment receipt verifier (Go)working

Most of the work never shows. The line is the part people see.

A reverse-edge katana and its dark indigo scabbard lie on black, lit by one warm light from above. The temper line glows along the blade.
